In some cases, often after a tooth extraction, a bone graft is needed. A bone graft is simpler than it sounds or you might think. What it means is that after an extraction, a small amount of bone grafting material is placed in the socket left by the extracted tooth. This becomes the scaffold for your body to create its own bone in that area. Although your sensitivity disappears very quickly, it can take 4 months for the bone to fully regenerate. The bone graft helps with restoration of the level of the bone so your dental implant or dentures will fit and function ideally.
